Lasting Impact Small Research Grants Programme
Supporting early-stage research with the potential to improve care across Grampian
Our Lasting Impact Small Research Grants Programme supports pilot and preliminary applied research studies which aim to make a lasting difference for NHS Grampian patients.
Grants of up to £20,000 are available to support early-stage research projects which have the potential to improve health and wellbeing, change care with NHS Grampian, and attract future external funding.
NHS Grampian Charity has a long history of supporting research which leads to improvements in health and wellbeing for the people of Grampian. Previous charity-funded research has explored conditions including stroke, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, mental health, infertility, Parkinson’s, and more.
The Lasting Impact Small Research Grants Programme builds on the charity’s support to date, bringing our research funding under the wider Lasting Impact Programme and focusing on applied research which can create meaningful, long-term benefit for NHS Grampian patients.

Who can apply?
The Lasting Impact Small Research Grants Programme is open to researchers at NHS Grampian and at any Grampian university.
Projects must be relevant to NHS Grampian patients and should have the potential to support improvements in health, wellbeing, care, or service delivery. Please ensure you have fully read the guidance notes before applying to ensure your prohject is eligible for funding.
How much can we apply for?
You can apply for up to £20,000, and requests should be based on the specific needs, costs, and anticipated impact of your project.
We encourage applicants to carefully consider the amount of funding required and to demonstrate how their proposal represents good value for money, rather than applying for the maximum amount available by default.
Funding is normally for a maximum of up to 12 months from the start of the award.

Would another grant programme be more suitable?
The Lasting Impact Small Research Grants Programme is designed for researchers seeking up to £20,000 to support early-stage research projects which will lead to a lasting difference for NHS Grampian patients. One of our other Lasting Impact Programme funding strands may be more suitable if your project does not fit this programme.
Lasting Impact Small Community Grants Programme:
This programme may be more suitable if you are a charity or community group seeking to deliver a community-led health and wellbeing project in Grampian. Grants of up to £10,000 are available for projects seeking capital or equipment costs, or funding to test a new way of working.
This programme is currently open, and will close to applicants on Monday 31st August.
Lasting Impact Large Grants Programme:
This programme may be more suitable if your project is larger in scale, requires more than £10,000, or would benefit from funding over a longer period. It will offer funding for up to three years with no upper financial limit, and will be open to local charities, community groups, NHS Grampian services, and Grampian universities.
We anticipate this programme will open in mid-October, at which point further details will be available.
How do we apply?
Applications for the Lasting Impact Small Research Grants Programme are now open. Please download and read the guidance notes before completing and submitting your application.
Applications close on Monday 21st September.
Following this, all applications will be assessed, peer reviewed, and reviewed by a Patient & Public Involvement & Engagement panel before a final decision is made.
We anticipate that applicants will be notified of the outcome in early December.
Please note than any changes to this timescale will be shared on our social media channels. We are unable to notify individual organisations due to the high volume of applications anticipated.
