The first hours and days following the arrival of a new baby are filled with excitement, emotion, and a lot of adjustments, and having your partner on hand to support you can make all the difference at such an overwhelming time.
Thanks to your generous support, we’ve been able to make things a little easier for patients at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital by funding two new comfortable fold-up beds.
These beds mean partners can stay overnight on the postnatal ward, giving new mums the comfort of having someone they trust right beside them as they recover and bond with their baby. They also allow partners to remain together in the Rubislaw Ward following a pregnancy loss, providing space to grieve side by side, without the distress of being separated overnight.
Sharon, from the Summerfield Ward, is pictured here with new dad Charles. He and his partner Rebecca recently welcomed baby Joel, and he said that having the opportunity to stay with them in the postnatal ward made a huge difference in their first few hours together as a family.
“Families do appreciate it,” said Sharon. “The beds are so handy, and it takes some of the stress off the mums if they know that someone they love is there to help and support them.”
These beds have been funded by donations kindly made by the charity’s supporters, to help bring this extra comfort to new parents when they need it most. If you’d like to help more projects like these, to make our hospitals more comfortable for patients and their loved ones, you can donate here.
Thank you for helping make moments like these possible 💙
