Your donations fund new equipment for neurology patients

Neurology patients at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary are benefitting from three new pieces of equipment, thanks to your generous donations. Your support has funded two new handheld micro spirometers and a mobile standing aid for Ward 204.

Senior Charge Nurse Dara says, “Many neurology patients require regular monitoring of their breathing function due to weakness of breathing muscles, and this is currently done with a bulky machine.

“The new handheld machines are much more efficient and easier to get readings from. They’re easier to transport around because they don’t need to be plugged into the wall, and they are much more comfortable for patients to use too.”

The new standing aid has also been popular with patients and staff alike.

David, who can be seen in the photo showing how it is used, says, “It’s such a fantastic piece of equipment that is really comfortable and easy to use.

“Patients can use the bars to pull themselves up from a seated position so it can help them be more independent, which is really important in terms of them seeing progress in their recovery and lifting their spirits.

“This is the second one we have in the ward now so it’s boosted the staff as well because they aren’t having to hang around and wait any more if it is already in use, and patients can take their time and not feel like they are being rushed.”
